He is a Director of Westward Quest Ltd a Scottish charitable company which takes church groups, young people and the disadvantaged to sea. He is a professionally qualified Yachtmaster and Cruising Instructor. He holds a Post graduate certificate in Community education and is a trained group worker. He also has 20 years business experience in the sales and marketing of analytical instruments with companies such as Foxboro, Linde, Centronics and Draeger.
